    Great retrofit kit!

Not for those expecting a simple, all inclusive, kit, you will need to use some creative ingenuity to make it work. It took me a few hours in total, but it works perfectly, and the mouth opens all the way with a simple pull of the lever. This was accomplished by making a bracket that puts the eye hook high up into the head.

    30" retrofit kit

Used this on a Danny O'Day, and can't be beat for the money. Anyone else may want to note the top disc on the stick is smaller than the neck, so may require replacing. I'd reviewed material on it before so I knew what I was doing, but wouldn't hurt for basic instructions to be included.

Great modification for your ventrilquist doll

Posted by Bill and Miles on 15th Feb 2018

This is a neat way to get a more professional style ventriloquist doll for an economical price. You do need to have basic DIY skills and take some time to plan things out. My son's doll must have been a little less than 30 in because I needed to cut the frame down about 2" to make it work. All told, it probably took a little over an hour to modify the doll and my son thinks it's great. The head now turns and having a thumb trigger on the mouth sure beats the original's string. There aren't any instructions so you have to be a little creative....just reference some of the links in other reviews for guidance. Hi, this is the kid. Its a really good product to have and I really enjoy my standard grade Mortimer Snerd. Thank you for your time. Stay in school. Not!

Easy to use if you have basic DIY skills

This can indeed help you convert a pull string doll to one with a more professional control stick setup, but it is far from "Plug and Play". This is not a negative comment on this product but more of a general comment on approaching the task of disassembling and reassembling a 30-inch ventriloquist doll (at a minimum, you'll be completely ripping open the torso area and removing and reattaching the head, converting the mouth mechanism, or more depending on your doll). You'll need a variety of hand tools and maybe even a power tool or two. Also a variety of glues Etc. Plan on spending hours, not minutes, depending on the level of complexity of your project and what you're trying to achieve. Overall I was very satisfied with the results I got converting my pull string 30-inch "Tommy Talker" doll. It's a lot more fun being able to move the head back and forth and control the doll with one hand. A great resource for the general approach and the type of skills you're going to need is located here: http://www.alstevens.com/ventriloquism/fred.html

    Retrofit Kit for 30" dolls

This is a great kit to upgrade or fix your doll. I was able to fix a doll that I wanted to repair so that I could pass it down to my kids and with this kit I was able to do so. Thank you.

    Brilliant Brilliant!

I bought a 30" Charlie on Ebay to replace the one I got back in the fifties. After using other headstick figures for 60 years-useless! But with the retro kit I am able to make the little Charlie move like he should! I just bought a 30" Mortimer too. With two kits, I'm swinging! Thanks for being so clever to make conversion fast and easy. Finding the right size waste basket was gonna be a challenge. What a "turn" of events! God Bless
